Dogs for Children

Big or Small

If you have little kids you could consider getting a big dog, as they tend to me patient. Small dogs can also be happy companions for kids, as long as the children know how to behave around them

Be aware that children under three may be unintentionally rough with their pets. Dogs, too can be rowdy with youngsters.

Growing Up Together

While playful, friendly breeds such as collies, retreivers, standard poodles and australian kelpies can make wonderful companions for children, don't buy a dog in the believe that it will teach you child responsibility. You must be willing to accept responsibility when necessary.

Puppy crying at night

Puppy Crying at Night

Puppies can be absorbingly cunning and wildly boisterous at times yet quite measured in mind and vulnerable in projection at other times. Discuss what your puppy really thinks in our puppy dog blog.

Dogs often bark and cry particular during their first night in a new home. Part seperation anxiety from there parted mother, part wonder or excitement and partially the stress of the "big move" can cause a puppy to cry for extented periods of time throughout the first few night in which you have them.

THIS IS NORMAL.

The primary point to remember during this barking or crying is that you should not react to the occurance. Hard as it may be you should ignore the outburst. The old saying of nature vs nurture shows the best course for working with dog thinking, the best card is often drawing upon the nature card.

What dogs see

Dogs See In Black & White  Only - FALSE
They can differentiate between shades of grey better than humans though its not all they see. Dogs do perceive colour! They are red/green colour blind but can see blue and yellow. The perception of colour is determined by the presence of "cone" (colour sensing photoreceptors). There are three types - yellow, blue and green. Dogs only have the blue and yellow. The yellow cone can detect red. When the yellow is stimulated it detects yellow or red. The yellow when mixed with signals from the blue cone will detect green. Therefore did you know that dogs can not detect the difference between red and green?
